Arckaringa Project
From MoxyWiki
The Arckaringa Project planned by Altona Energy plc comprises a coal mine with integrated coal-to-liquids and power co-generation in the Arckaringa Basin in northern South Australia.
Base case for the Final Feasibility Study for the project comprises:
- 10 million tonne pa open cut coal mine at Wintinna
- 10 million barrels pa(10 Mbarrels/yrinfo.png

The Arckaringa project is an Unincorporated Evaluation Joint Venture. The exploration licences for the Arckaringa Project are held 49% by Arckaringa Energy Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Altona Energy plc. The remaining 51% is held by CNOOC New Energy Investment Ltd.[2]It is estimated that Altona's total exploration licences, which cover 2500km2 in the northern portion of the Arckaringa Basin in South Australia, include 7.8 billion tonnes of coal (non-JORC standard) including 1.3 billion tonnes JORC compliant.
A February 2010 investor presentation by Altona Energy plc states that the resource is world scale and 'assuming 50:50 ratio of coal converted through existing technologies to liquid fuels and SNG (substitute natural gas)', the Arckaringa coal resources are about 28% of North Sea proven reserves[3]
As at March 2010, Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) approval of the CNOOC-NEI investment in the joint venture is being sought so that the joint venture can take effect and work on the bankable feasibility study can begin.
A key step towards project deployment, on 21 April 2010, Arckaringa Energy Pty Ltd and CNOOC-NEIA formally signed the Arckaringa Unincorporated Evaluation Joint Venture[4].
