Australia is the world's fourth largest coal producer.

Australia’s economic reserves of are sufficient to sustain current black coal production rates for nearly 100 years. Brown coal economic reserves are estimated to be able to sustain current brown coal production for over 400 years.


In the year ending June 2008, Australia produced 325 Mt of black coal and is forecast by ABARE[1]to have produced 336 Mt of black coal in the year ending June 2009

Black coal is Australia's largest export.Australia is the world's biggest coal exporter, supplying around 27% of world coal trade.
