Bioko Island Methanol

The Bioko Island Methanol plant in Equatorial Guinea, West Africa has been commercially producing chemical grade methanol from the natural gas off Bioko Island since 2001 utilising a Gas to Liquids Technology process.
The plant is operated by Atlantic Methanol Production Company, L.L.C. (AMPCO)[1]. Subsidiaries of Noble Energy Inc[2] and Marathon Oil Company[3] each own 45% of AMPCO and the remaining 45% is owned by SONAGAS GE (Sociedad Nacional de Gas de G.E.)[4] the National Gas Company of Equatorial Guinea.

Approximately 1000000 tons of methanol per year are produced at Bioko Island. Equatorial Guinea supplies about 2% of world production of methanol, an intermediate chemical used in the manufacture of many everyday products.
