Category:Platform Chemical
From MoxyWiki
Platform chemicals are compounds that serve as building blocks for numerous chemical intermediates and end products.
The U.S. Department of Energy[1] identified 12 chemicals or chemical classes as potential building blocks or platform chemicals from which many value-added chemicals may be derived. For example, succinic acid could be used to produce a biobased butanediol, expanding the utility of this compound.
The platform chemicals in the top 12 list were glycerol, levulinic acid; 1,4 diacids (fumaric acid; malic acid and succinic acid); 2,5 furan dicarboxylic acid; aspartic acid; glutamic acid; glucaric acid; 3 hydroxy propionic acid; sorbitol; xylitol; arabinitol and itaconic acid.
