Demographics

An important characteristic of the demographic in this county is a fairly substantial migration of middle class people to live in the countryside.

  • These are young couples, young families and retirees from large centres like Toronto.
    • The attraction is 1-3 acre plots of land and newly built housing at reasonable prices. This is a shift for this province because the restrictions on housing density on rural roads has been lessened.
      • Much of new housing being built is outside towns and villages[3].

Energy

Energy Supply Infrastructure

  1. Natural gas is delivered by pipeline.
    • It is only available in towns and some villages - Napanee, Odessa, Newburgh, Desoronto
      • it is not in Tamworth or Enterprise[4].
    • The pipelines are limited to the town.
      • sometimes extending 1 or 2 kms to subdivisions attached to the town.
        • Pipelines do not service rural roads[4].
  2. Propane is available for delivery.
    • The homeowner stores it in large bottles, 100, 250 gal or larger.
      • A delivery service is used to refill usually a couple times a year. The cost is about 2x pipeline gas[4].
