Ontario East Wood Centre and Eco Industrial Park

From MoxyWiki

The Ontario East Wood Centre & Eco-Industrial Park (EOWC-EIP) is located in Eastern Ontario near the Township of Edwardsburgh/ Cardinal in the County of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario.

The EOWC-EIP is a complex designed for research, development and demonstration (RD&D), and for the manufacture of value-added wood products destined for domestic and international markets. The Centre is being created to foster responsible, environmentally sound business practices[1].

The Ontario East Wood Centre & Eco-Industrial Park will run north from County Road 2 on about 50 acres of land within the 370-acre Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Industrial Park, adjacent to the Port of Prescott[1]. The GreenField Ethanol Inc plant, which began operating in 2008, began operations in the Industrial Park in 2008. Figure 1 below shows the Industrial Park with locations of the GreenField Ethanol plant and the proposed Wood Centre.

A further 10,000 plus acres of wooded lands surrounding the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Eco-Industrial Park is owned by the Province of Ontario and the Township of Edwardsburgh/ Cardinal[3]

The initial Wood Centre Committee was set up in 2004 by the Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township Council in response to a presentation and proposal from the Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF). Brian Barkley, General Manager, EOMF; Ian Manson, of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and Sandra Lawn, a consultant/project leader with the EOMF and former Prescott Mayor acted as advisors to the Committee[1].
