UBC Satui Demonstration Plant Project

The Upgraded Brown Coal process (UBC) upgrades low grade high moisture content coal to the same heat value as high-grade bituminous coal.
In 2008, with the support of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Kobe Steel built a demonstration plant in Satui in Indonesia, coordinates -3.77909° 115.4382°Latitude: 3°46′44.724″S
Longitude: 115°26′17.52″E. A partnership was then formed between Kobe Steel and PT Bumi Resources Tbk to operate the demonstration plant. The plant has 600 tonnes coal per day capacity.
